Ajmal M
Thanks for stopping by.
I'm an AI undergraduate at IIT Madras, where I spend most of my time thinking about how we can build AI systems that are genuinely useful in healthcare.
Over the past few years, I've worked on autonomous ICU ventilation management at MIT & Mayo Clinic, 3D multimodal medical representation learning at Carnegie Mellon University, clinical reasoning evaluation for LLMs at MBZUAI, and brain MRI reconstruction at Stanford University.
I'm always happy to chat about research, collaborations, or interesting ideas in AI. I’m based in Kerala, India.

Research Interests
Modern AI systems can solve increasingly complex problems, but we still don't fully understand when to trust their decisions, especially in high-stakes domains like healthcare. I'm interested in understanding how these systems reason, why they fail, and how we can make them more reliable. I explore these questions through causal inference and reasoning in large language models.
Selected Experience
AI Intern, MIT & Mayo Clinic
Oct 2025 - Present
Working on autonomous ICU ventilation management, causal analysis of intervention strategies, and agentic decision-support systems for respiratory optimization.
